We strive to provide our fellows with a comprehensive foundation for a successful career in transplant surgery! We are seeking to fill an American Society of Transplant Surgeons/ Transplantation Accreditation and Certification (ASTS/TAC) fellowship position for the 2027-2029 cycle. We offer a high volume, well-rounded clinical experience in liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, training in living and deceased donor procurement, along with leading perioperative care, that assures fellows extensive training in transplantation surgery and medicine. Throughout the course of the fellowship, fellows gain in-depth clinical experience in both adult and pediatric transplantation. Fellows rotate on four separate rotations that include 1) liver and hepatobiliary surgery; 2) kidney transplant; 3) pancreas transplant and live donor nephrectomy; and 4) deceased donor organ procurement (https://www.surgery.wisc.edu/education-training/fellowships/abdominal-transplant-surgery-fellowship/).

Requirements

The University of Wisconsin Abdominal Transplant Surgery Fellowship is accredited by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons/Transplant Accreditation and Certification, and the candidate would be expected to meet the requirements of an ASTS/TAC fellow. Candidates must have satisfactorily completed a surgical residency which satisfies the educational requirements for certification by a recognized American Board or foreign equivalency (https://www.asts.org/docs/default-source/fellowship-training/asts-fellow-requirements.pdf?sfvrsn=cdb42189_43). The objective of a transplant surgery fellowship training program approved by TAC is to develop proficiency in the surgical and medical management of patients with end-stage organ diseases amenable to transplantation. This objective should be achieved through a 24-month structured supplemental program for the study and treatment of these diseases in an accredited and properly supervised transplant surgery fellowship.
