The Department of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is seeking an academic Radiologist to serve as Director of Ultrasound. The Division of Ultrasound at Jefferson has been a leader and innovator in clinical applications of ultrasound for the past half-century, and continues to lead the field in applied clinical work, education, and research. The Department of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is the academic flagship hospital system of the Jefferson Health Enterprise spanning 5 hospital systems with 13 acute-care hospitals in the Philadelphia area and New Jersey. The radiologist will hold a faculty appointment at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. Appointment at the sonography program in the College of Health Professions is also possible.
The Division of Ultrasound in Abdominal Imaging section, consists of 12 radiologists who provide clinical services overseeing and interpreting imaging studies performed at Center City and South Philadelphia campuses and in urban and suburban outpatient imaging centers. Approximately three dozen sonographers provide 24/7 service to a high acuity academic hospital, a busy urban hospital and a dedicated neuroscience hospital and their outpatient sites. There are additional ultrasound sites at multiple Jefferson Outpatient Imaging centers in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia suburbs.
The division has a world renowned research team consisting of 4 PhDs, 2 MD researchers, 4 post-docs and 6 PhD students with multiple NIH, government and industry grants. The Division has significant ongoing research in multiple areas including ultrasound contrast agents and oncologic diagnosis and treatment. There is close affiliation of the division with nearby engineering and science universities. Close clinical and research collaboration is well established with GI, vascular medicine/surgery, medical and surgical oncology, urology, and pancreatico-biliary, colorectal, gynecologic and transplant surgery. The division oversees a nationally recognized Vascular Laboratory.
The division director’s responsibilities include coordinating clinical Ultrasound services across the spectrum of ultrasound from outpatients to quaternary intensive care patients and from general ultrasound to high end liver, contrast, musculoskeletal and vascular evaluations. Expertise in abdominal ultrasound is mandatory, expertise in vascular or other subspecialties is a plus. The director provides critical input for enterprise decisions such as equipment selection. The director is expected to participate in ultrasound research projects and ultrasound education of sonographers, residents and fellows, and sonography students. Clinical and educational responsibilities include daily clinical supervision of residents and ACGME-accredited abdominal imaging fellows, lecturing at fellow, resident, and medical student conferences, and attendance and teaching at multidisciplinary conferences. The director is expected to spend part of their clinical time in other sections of abdominal imaging depending on their expertise.

Requirements
The radiologist must have: 1) an MD, DO or equivalent degree, 2) completed an accredited Radiology residency and a fellowship in an abdominal imaging subspecialty, 3) board certification or board eligibility and 4) a license or eligibility to practice medicine in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Experience is generally expected for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
