Description

Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to fill this new post within the Radiology department at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The post is for a Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Genitourinary, Oncology and Non-vascular intervention.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake all aspects of diagnostic and interventional GU/Oncology work and be part of the Non-vascular Interventional rota. The successful applicant will take part in many sub-specialist GU and non-GU MDTs such as Renal, Prostate, Penile, Germ cell, Bladder, Melanoma, CUP and stone MDTs. They will be involved in sub-specialist Uro-intervention work such as nephrostomies, Ureteric stenting, PCNL and general NVI work such as biopsies and drainages. Any prior experience and competency in Prostate Brachytherapy is desirable but not essential. There will also be an involvement in general acute CT, Ultrasound, plain film and Fluoroscopy sessions. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

The successful applicant should possess FRCR (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

This post is required to support the Genito-Urinary, Oncological and Non-Vascular Interventional Radiology Service at LTHT.

We require a motivated and dedicated individual to support the current team of 8 Genitourinary Oncological Radiologists.

The post holder will support elective and acute reporting of GU and Oncological CT, MRI and US imaging, as well as contributing to the acute CT service, and the non-Vascular interventional on call rota.

There will be opportunity to contribute to several areas of NVIR including renal access / PCNL, Nephrostomy and ureteric stenting, US guided biopsy and drainage including prostate biopsy and biliary intervention, depending on the successful candidates interests.

There are ample opportunities for service improvement and research activities within the department which will be encouraged.

Essential

  • Medically fit to fulfil aspects of the post, and be able to respond quickly to emergencies, as necessary. Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice).

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBChB or equivalent qualification.
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice. YOU MUST STATE YOUR GMC NUMBER IN YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR SHORTLISTING.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree.

Experience

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Genito-Urinary Radiology, Oncological Radiology and Non-Vascular Interventional Radiology.
  • Specifically, must demonstrate higher specialist training in Non-Vascular Interventional Radiology.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit

Essential

  • Should have completed a recognised training programme in Clinical Radiology with FRCR certification.
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
  • Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.

Management & Interpersonal Skills

Essential

  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
